How It Works

How Hoowooh Turns a Book into an Audiobook

The same four steps apply whether you're starting from a file, a scanned page, or plain text — upload or scan, choose a voice and style, generate, then listen or download.

Upload or scan

Start with whatever form your book already exists in. Upload an EPUB or PDF file directly, or scan a printed page with your camera if there's no digital file at all. Text-based files skip straight to text recognition; scanned PDFs and camera captures route through OCR first.

Four ways to start

EPUB, PDF, a camera scan, or pasted plain text — the same generator handles all four.

Voice and mode, chosen together

Preview a voice, then pick the narration mode that fits what you're listening to.

Choose voice & narration style

Preview Hoowooh's library of AI voices, or select a custom voice you've created with consent. Then choose a narration mode — Story, Dialogue, Explainer or Simple — depending on whether you're listening to fiction, conversation-heavy chapters, or study material.

Generate the audiobook

Once your text, voice and mode are set, Hoowooh converts the recognized content into scenario-aware narration. For anything that went through OCR, it's worth reviewing the recognized text first — catching a misread word here saves rework later.

Review before you commit

Especially for scanned pages, check the text before generating the final narration.

Stream or download

Play instantly in the app, or download as MP3 for offline listening.

Listen or download

Play the finished audiobook in Hoowooh's built-in player, with speed control, chapter seek and a sleep timer. Or download it as an MP3 to listen without a connection, whenever and wherever you'd rather not depend on data.

Where your format changes the process

No OCR needed

Reflowable text goes straight from upload to voice selection.

Depends on the PDF

Text-based PDFs skip OCR; scanned PDFs need it first.

OCR is required

Camera captures always route through text recognition first.

Ready immediately

Pasted or plain text skips both upload parsing and OCR.

Questions about the process

Processing time depends on the length of the book. Exact timing will be confirmed once Hoowooh is live.
Reviewing recognized text is especially useful for scanned or OCR-processed pages, where accuracy can vary. It's optional but recommended for anything that went through OCR.
Voice and mode are chosen before generation. To hear a different combination, regenerate the audiobook with new settings.
The same four steps apply to all three, but EPUB and text-based PDF skip the OCR step that scanned PDFs and camera captures need.
