Voice Consent Policy
Draft template — not yet reviewed by a lawyer. Voice cloning raises real legal and ethical questions that vary by jurisdiction (including publicity rights and biometric data laws). This page should be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before it is published or relied upon.
Consent-first principle
HooWooh's custom voice cloning feature exists for private, personal audiobook narration — not for anonymous impersonation, and not for cloning anyone without their knowledge. Every custom voice created through HooWooh must be based on either your own voice, or a voice you have clear, explicit consent to use.
Cloning your own voice
You may create a custom voice from your own recorded voice sample without needing separate permission, since you are the person being cloned.
Cloning someone else's voice
To create a custom voice based on someone else's voice — such as a family member or friend — you must have that person's clear, informed, and voluntary consent. Consent should be specific to voice cloning through HooWooh, not implied from a general relationship or a recording made for another purpose.
The exact consent-capture mechanism (such as an in-app confirmation from the speaker) will be finalized and described here before this feature launches.
Prohibited uses
- Cloning a public figure's voice without their direct, verifiable consent
- Cloning any voice without the knowledge of the person being cloned
- Using a cloned voice to impersonate someone, mislead listeners, or cause harm
- Using a cloned voice for any purpose other than private, personal audiobook narration through HooWooh
- Sharing, distributing, or publishing audio generated with a cloned voice outside of your own private use
Verification & revocation
HooWooh may implement verification steps intended to confirm consent before a voice is created, and reserves the right to remove a custom voice at any time if consent is disputed or cannot be confirmed. The person whose voice was cloned may request removal of that custom voice by contacting HooWooh.
Data handling
Voice samples and resulting custom voices are treated as sensitive data, stored privately to the account that created them, and not shared with other users. See the Privacy Policy for more on how voice data is handled, and the Security page for related safeguards.
Reporting misuse
If you believe your voice has been cloned without your consent, or that a cloned voice is being misused, report it through the Contact page or the channels described on the Voice Safety page. Reports will be reviewed and may result in removal of the voice and suspension of the associated account.
